Key Project Deliverables

Acorn’s understanding and knowledge of the required accreditation to rail industry standard Link-Up and its ability to accept and process wastes ‘out of hours’ were key factors in winning the contract. All work had to be delivered with the least disruption to services hence the need for out of hours working with the highest levels of efficiency and compliance.

  • 100% Recycling/Reuse of waste.

Proposed Solutions

A partial line closure between 12 midnight and 5 am was affected for three nights to allow Acorn to remove over 100 tonnes of materials from the site.

Concrete, sand and timber wastes were loaded into 20-yard Rolonof containers by a mini-digger and tele-handler and transported to a local materials recycling facility for sorting and re-processing. Rigorous standards are required for work carried out in the vicinity of rail lines so it was imperative that the supplier chosen could meet these exacting standards.

Project Summary

Despite a number of access issues Acorn Waste Management, by working closely with our supply partner, we're able to deliver the project on-time with no hitches. The proximity of the recycling facility and their excellent recycling rates also gave the end client the assurance that the project would be carried out in the highest environmentally sustainable manner.

All of the waste was diverted from landfill with 95% recycled into new building materials at our supply partners MRF and just 5% sent for energy recovery.
